How Long Does a Gas Cylinder Last?

The question of how long does a gas cylinder last on its face seems very simple. However, estimating actual time is extremely complicated.  There are scientific methods to do extensive calculations, but the math is simply far above the heads of many BBQ enthusiasts. There are some rules of thumb that can be used to help most of us stay in the ballpark when estimating how long the gas cylinders will last. A good rule of thumb is one standard gas cylinder will last about 18-20 hours of cooking time.  That is using the BBQ on medium heat on 2 to 3 burners.  Larger burners and grills will use the gas much faster and may cut the time down to 10 hours of cook time. How long your gas cylinder will last given the 18-20 hour estimate is still a highly variable answer. If you BBQ 2 times per week, and for about 30-40 minutes each usage, the cylinder should last about 6 weeks.
